Reports To:  Street Superintendent

Objective 

To ensure timely and efficient performance of a variety of manual labor tasks related to the cleanliness, maintenance, and repair of the city’s streets.

General Statement of Duties 

This is a non-supervisory position.  Duties include the performance of street maintenance and repair tasks in the Public Works Department.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities 

  1. Hand shovels dirt, gravel, or asphalt;

  1. Tamps, packs, and levels dirt, asphalt, or other material;

  1. Drives dump truck;

  1. Loads and unloads materials and equipment, including packing machine;

  1. May cut grass or weed by hand or using a push or power lawn mower or power trimmer;

  1. May occasionally operate other light equipment;

  1. May lay concrete;

  1. Maintains culverts under streets;

  1. May clean curbs, gutters, or offices;

  1. Installs and maintains traffic signals and other traffic control devices;  

  1. Performs such other duties as may be assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Physical Ability

Tasks involve the ability to exert heavy physical effort in heavy work with the greatest emphasis on the lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of moderately heavy objects and materials (10-50 pounds), but also involving some combination of stooping, kneeling, crouching and crawling.

Sensory Requirements

Tasks require visual and sound perception and discrimination under loud working conditions and the ability to communicate orally.

Environmental Factors

Tasks risk exposure to extreme weather conditions, fumes or airborne particles, and toxic or caustic chemicals.

Certificates and Licenses Required

Valid Texas Commercial driver license Class B or A.
