Reports To:  Water/Sewer Superintendent

Objective                                                       

To ensure that the wastewater collection system is kept running efficiently and to prevent major problems that would affect the community.

General Statement of Duties                       

Duties will include regularly driving and ensuring proper maintenance of lift stations, manholes, and the collection system.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities         

  1. Checks all manholes daily throughout town to ensure they are running properly.
  2. Lift stations are checked daily to ensure they are running properly and, if needed, light maintenance is performed.
  3. Unstops sewers and manholes as needed.
  4. Assists in laying and repairing of sewer lines.
  5. Assists in replacing sewer tapping saddles when needed.
  6. Mows areas around lift stations and water towers.
  7. Does smoke testing throughout entire city to ensure proper condition of the sewer lines.
  8. Assist with bleeding and opening of fire hydrants.
  9. Maintains a safe working environment by using appropriate personal protective equipment and observing safety procedures.
  10. Assist in connecting and disconnecting water service at residential and commercial properties when needed.
  11. Assist in traffic control as needed, flagging, and putting up barricades.
  12. Performs other such duties as may be assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Physical Ability                                            

Tasks involve the ability to exert heavy physical effort in heavy work with the greatest emphasis on the lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of moderately heavy objects and materials (10-50 pounds); may occasionally involve heavier objects and materials (50-100 pounds); also involving some combination of stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling; ability to use hands to handle or feel; and the ability to climb or balance.

Sensory Requirements                                 

Tasks require visual and sound perception; the ability to adjust focus between near and far; and the ability to communicate orally.

Environmental Factors                                

Tasks may risk exposure to extreme weather conditions; exposure to fumes and airborne particles; exposure to moving mechanical parts; working in high places, exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals; risk of electrical shock; exposure to vibration; and working in loud to very loud conditions.   

Experience and Training                            

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or six months to one year related experience and/or training.

OR

Any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Certificates and Licenses Required           

Valid Texas Class A or B commercial license.
