Elections/Elección
The City Secretary serves as the head Election Official for the City of Hillsboro and is responsible for conducting all city elections as prescribed by the Election Code of the State of Texas. Elections are conducted annually on the Uniform Election Day in May (the first Saturday in May). The next Hillsboro City Officer's Election is scheduled to occur on May 2, 2026 for Place 2, Place 4, and Place 6 (At-large.) - May 3, 2025-Elect Mayor (At-Large,) Councilmember for Place 1, Councilmember for Place 3, and Councilmember for Place 5 (Filing period: Jan. 15 - Feb. 14, 2025)
- May 2, 2026 - Elect Councilmembers for Place 2, Place 4, and Place 6 At-Large (Filing period: Jan. 14 - Feb. 13, 2026)
- May 1, 2027-Elect Mayor (At-Large,) Councilmember for Place 1, Councilmember for Place 3, and Councilmember for Place 5 (Filing period: Jan. 13 - Feb. 12, 2025)
Each candidate for an elective city office shall meet the following qualifications:
a) Shall be twenty -one (21) years of age or older on the commencement of the term to be filled at the election.
b) Shall be a registered and qualified voter of the City.
c) Shall have resided for at least twelve (12) months preceding the election within the corporate limits of the City, including territory annexed prior to the filing deadline.
d) Shall not be in arrears in the payment of any taxes or other liabilities due the City. “In arrears" is defined herein to mean that payment has not been received within ninety (90) days from due date.
e) An incumbent seeking reelection as a member of the Council must file for the same position number the incumbent is presently serving.
f) No candidate may file for more than one office or position number per election. Home Rule Charter for The CITY OF HILLSBORO 1981 Article 5
g) No employee of the City shall continue in such position after being elected to any elective municipal office.
