The City Secretary serves as the head Election Official for the City of Hillsboro and is responsible for conducting all city elections as prescribed by the Election Code of the State of Texas. Elections are conducted annually on the Uniform Election Day in May (the first Saturday in May). The next Hillsboro City Officer's Election is scheduled to occur on May 3, 2025 for Mayor, Place 1, Place 3, and Place 5. CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS/ELIGIBILITY :

Election Code Chapter 141. Eligibility for Public Office  

Eligibility Requirements (Per The City of Hillsboro Home Rule Charter-Article 5:) 

  • Must be 21 years of age or older.
  • Shall be a registered and qualified voter of the City
  • Shall have resided for at least twelve (12) months preceding the election within the corporate limits of the city, including territory annexed prior to the filing deadline
  • Shall not be in arrears in the payment of any taxes or other liabilities due to the City. 
  • An incumbent seeking reelection as a member of Council must file for the same position number the incumbent so presently serving. 
  • No candidate my file for more than one office or position number per election.
  • No employee of the City shall continue in such position after being elected to any municipal office.
